How to Throw a Kentucky Derby Party

It’s Derby week, y’all! I’m so so excited to share today how to throw a Kentucky Derby party! For those of you who don’t know, I was born and raised in Louisville, KY, so I am *quite* familiar with the Derby. It’s honestly the most fun season and I look forward to it every year! Whether you’re attending the Derby or tuning into NBC on Saturday for live coverage of the races, I’ve got the perfect tips for throwing a Kentucky Derby party!
- Fully Stocked Bar Cart: I always have Mint Julep ingredients ready to go for the party — bitters, bourbon, & mint also make for great decor on the bar cart as well!
- Desserts: I love sticking with Derby themed desserts, like derby pie and horse-themed sugar cookies! The mini Derby pies are perfect for hosting, because each person gets his/her own!
- Derby Decor: Have your Derby party stocked with the perfect decor. The official 144th Kentucky Derby cups and cocktail napkins are all present during my party!
- Fresh Flowers: Try sprucing up your party with fresh roses {I like to stick with red or pink for Derby}. I place them in shallow vases around the home. Another tip is to lay some fresh mint around. It’s not only gorgeous, but also makes your house smell amazing.
- Pick A Headpiece: Can’t forget to wear your Derby best with either a fascinator or hat!
- TV Screen: Don’t forget to play live coverage of the Kentucky Derby on NBC TV Network!
By hitting all of these Derby traditions, you’ll be sure to throw an amazing Kentucky Derby party! I always do something different for Derby every year. Some years, I attend the races with a glamorous outfit & hat, while others I’m helping host a themed party. One year, I stayed indoors and watched the races on NBC all day Saturday, and actually, last year, J and I planned a quick getaway during Derby weekend and stayed fully up to date on Derby Day races by tuning into NBC from across the country!

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t feel so blessed to be Jordan’s wife. He is my everything. These photos and video are the sweetest reminder of our love for one another. So, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a seat, and try not to bawl your eyes out (because I know we did). Every time we look through our photos and watch our video, we cry the happiest tears.

Dark Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread
One of my favorite things to do in the fall is bake my dark chocolate chip pumpkin bread! I’ve made it *so* many times for me, J, and friends & family. It’s moist, decadent, and super easy to make! It also makes for a great DIY housewarming gift.
