12 Self Care Ideas to Indulge in from Home

Well, all of this staying at home business has me indulging in every self care item I own.  I mean, we are self-quarantined, so treat yo’self.  Whenever I chat about skincare or beauty regimens, I always get the same concern from gals: I don’t have time.  Since we now have *all* the time in the world (dramatic, but it feels like that these days), what better way to put that time to good use than to indulge in some self care.

Wear that face mask.

Do that 20 step skincare routine.

Take that vitamin.

Try that new eye cream.

It not only makes me feel so much more refreshed afterward, which is honestly hard to do these days when you’re stuck between four walls from AM to PM, but it also benefits your skin and health, so that you can exit this quarantine feeling brand spankin’ new. Here are my:

Up your Skincare Game:

Now is the time to stick to a skincare regimen.  Trust me, after sticking to it for a few days, you’ll notice a difference and want to keep doing it! In my Tips for Working From Home blog post, I talked about the pros of washing your face the moment you get up.  This goes hand-in-hand with this Self Care Idea.  Set aside some time to do your skincare regimen and you’ll feel ready to conquer your day. Many of you know, I use Tula Probiotic Skincare.  I personally think all of their products are great self care indulgences, but if you’re needing two (okay, maybe three) of my all time favorite Tula products, it would have to be their Purifying Face Cleanser (called a cult classic for a reason!), Face Filter Primer (real life IG filter for your face), and the Rose Glow & Get It (instantly brightens your eyes).  If you’re not wanting to wear makeup for the day and go au natural, I love pairing their primer with their eye brightener for a fresh, yet put together and bright look.

You can use code SOUTHERNDRAWL for 15% off your Tula order.

Highly recommend giving it a try if you’ve been in a skincare rut — it has transformed my skin!

End the Day with a Hot Cup of Tea:

I set aside 30 minutes in the evening with J to sip on a hot cup of tea with the TV off.  It gets us ready for bed, lets us chill out, but also spend quality time together.   My all time favorite tea was introduced to me last year by one of my girlfriends, called Harney & Sons.  We love the hot cinnamon, African autumn, and the peppermint!

Cleanse the System:

Yep, this is 100% self care.  This is probably TMI, but I always suffer from bloating and occasional constipation.  It could be from stress, from something I ate, or from dehydration.  When I’m feeling backed up, I swear by taking Global Healing Oxy-Powder, which is an oxygen based natural cleanse supplement.  I’ve had my fair share of ‘poop pills’ (if you follow on IG stories, then YOU KNOW), and this has been my new fave! It’s gentle and won’t leave you feeling drained, while also cleaning you out!

Indulge in a Long Bath:

Snag a bath bomb and relax in a long, warm bath.  Currently, my favorite bath bomb is this CBD mineral soak, which has hemp extract, seed oil, and epsom salt — which makes it great for relaxation and muscle recovery.

Take a Multivitamin:

We aren’t getting any younger, and it’s important to start taking our health seriously…which includes taking a daily multivitamin.  There are many gaps in our diets that a multivitamin can provide, which aids our immunity, energy, and skin.  It took me awhile to find a women’s multivitamin that I truly loved (and one that didn’t make me nauseous).  That’s when I stumbled upon Ritual.  I asked for recommendations on IG the other day for a good women’s multivitamin and an overwhelming number of y’all suggested Ritual! It has a no-nausea design, it’s vegan, gluten and allergen free, non-GMO, and no colorants or synthetic fillers.  They also provide results from a clinical study over 12 weeks that showed increased levels of several key nutrients, including Vitamin D and Omega-3 DHA, so this was a selling point for a science nerd like myself. I’ve been using and loving it! I take the essential multivitamin (for 18+), but there’s also a prenatal and multivitamin for 50+ (which I got my mama!).

You can use code SOUTHERNDRAWL for 10% off your first 3 months. Start now and do your body something good!

Go for a Mid-Day Walk:

This is a self care task that will make all the difference! Give yourself a mental break and get some fresh air (plus, get moving!). It’s not only a great way to get your steps in, but it gives your mind a break, especially if you’re working from home!

Do a Breathing/Meditation Exercise for 5-10 Minutes:

There’s something about this that calms me down.  I’m not going to lie, I’m not a yogi and did not believe that a 5 minute breathing exercise of any kind would do anything for me…but I was wrong.  Either in the morning, mid afternoon, or evening, try a breathing exercise for 5-10 minutes.

Toss the Booze:

I know it might be easy to reach for that bottle wine when you’re bored or if you’d like to end the night with your fave show & a glass of vino, but try it out…trust me.  Toss the booze.  Just for a couple weeks during this quarantine.  You will feel AMAZING.  Many of you know that J and I no longer drink (apparently, we’re called ‘sober curious’ and there’s actually a huge movement toward this!).  We have never felt so well-rested, energized, healthy, and focused.  I’ve never been a big drinker to begin with and honestly, at first, didn’t think I would physically feel a change — it was mostly because I was sick of nursing a drink to make others feel comfortable around me…but the change I physically felt after not even having a glass of wine a week was outrageous! I’m pretty in touch with my body, so I could feel a difference.  So, I challenge you to do the same just for a few weeks!

If you love the taste of craft beer, Athletic Brewing Co and WellBeing Brewing Co are faves of ours (it’s legit craft beer without any booze so you don’t feel the effects!), along with Tost Sparkling Beverage and this Red Grape Rose with Rosehip.

Take a Probiotic:

I’ve raved and raved and raved about it.  If you don’t take a daily probiotic, then you should! This works from the inside out and helps balance the bacteria in your gut, which in turn, affects your overall health and can contribute to weight loss, digestive health, immune function and more. There are two probiotics that I love.

Tula Daily probiotic is the first one: the reason why I love this is that you get all of the perks of a daily probiotic with a skin health complex that supports skin smoothness and hydration. If you love taking a Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement, Tula just released their Balanced Beauty Gummy that promotes strong hair, skin, and nails with probiotics.  You can take them separately or their gummies and their daily probiotic together!

Use code SOUTHERNDRAWL for 15% off your Tula purchase.

Additionally, I’ve been loving Global Healing’s Latero-Flora probiotic. I’ve always been cognizant of what I put in my body.  I utilize supplements and vitamins to reach certain health goals and to make sure I’m living my healthiest life possible.  Probiotics have always played an important role in my daily routine (keeps me regular, helps with immunity, etc.), but honestly, not all probiotics are created equally.  Over the last year or so, I now pay very close attention to the quality of what goes in my body.  Global Healing is a really great brand that I’ve been loving for vitamins/supplements.  Their Latero-Flora probiotic contains Brevibacillus laterosporus, an advanced probiotic that’s available only through health professionals with each serving providing one million spore-bearing bacteria.

Both of these probiotics are extremely high quality and 100% worth it.  Tula is geared a bit more towards gut AND beauty benefits with amazing skin and health complexes, while Global Healing is more for gut health with detoxification.

Add Soothing Scents:

I impulsively bought an essential oil diffuser on Amazon the other month and little did I know that a purchase would make such a difference.  J and I diffuse lavender throughout the house and in our bedroom when we sleep, and it has relaxed us to THE MAX! The sound and scents are so peaceful that it really was the best $30 ever spent.

Get a Sweat In:

The best self care idea, in my opinion, but did you really think that I would think otherwise? Get moving! Whether it’s a FITwithASD Gym or At Home Workout, a walk outside, or a 20 minute yoga flow — just get a little sweat in and treat your body with respect! If you’re needing some motivation, our 8 Week Challenge on FITwithASD.com begins on 3/30/20 and if you’re wanting more exercise inspo, you can give @FITwithASD a follow on IG!

Read a Book:

When is the last time you read a book? Now is the perfect time to do so! Indulge in a good book from one of my book reviews, instead of binge watching that Netflix show.

10/27/18 Mr. & Mrs. White

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t feel so blessed to be Jordan’s wife. He is my everything. These photos and video are the sweetest reminder of our love for one another. So, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a seat, and try not to bawl your eyes out (because I know we did). Every time we look through our photos and watch our video, we cry the happiest tears.

The Proposal

It’s crazy what can happen in a year. I met the love of my life and the rest is history. I was having a hard time ending this post, because frankly, I think I could talk about that evening forever. Then I realized that this post doesn’t have an ending, but instead, a beginning. Thank you so much for all of the love, excitement, and gratitude.

Dark Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

One of my favorite things to do in the fall is bake my dark chocolate chip pumpkin bread! I’ve made it *so* many times for me, J, and friends & family. It’s moist, decadent, and super easy to make! It also makes for a great DIY housewarming gift.
