Cancun Mexico Travel Guide

Our girls trip to Cancún, Mexico was amazing! I’ve never been so relaxed — the weather was perfect, the ocean was gorgeous, and there was so much to do.  If you followed along on Instagram {check out my Cancún highlights!!}, then you probably saw how crystal blue the ocean was.  I’ve stayed outside of Cancún before, in Riviera Maya, which was an amazing stay 30 minutes away, and the ocean didn’t look like this at all, but you get the perk of having a more chill and remote vacation.  Not sure why, but it seems like the ocean is only this clear in the heart of Cancún.

First of all, I received so many questions about where we stayed, so I knew a Cancún, Mexico Travel Guide was necessary!  We stayed at the Intercontinental Presidente, which is in the ‘Hotel Zone’.  My parents have been staying there for years and my mom is a picky beach-goer, so I knew it would be a great stay.  There are many hotel and resort options in the Hotel Zone — many of which are all inclusive.  However, I found it better to stay at a ‘smaller’ hotel that isn’t all inclusive.  Some of the hotels around us didn’t have as great of beaches either!

Cancún is extremely safe and there is SO much to see and do.  You can either walk or take a cab (it’s very safe with people everywhere!), so there’s really no point to do all inclusive, in my opinion.  The further you travel from Cancún, and the more remote it becomes, the less safe it gets (in my opinion), which is why all inclusive would come in handy in those distant areas!

The restaurants are AMAZING.  High quality food, reasonable prices, and super chic atmospheres.  I was so impressed with everywhere we dined!  Here are all the restaurants we dined at and places we shopped:

Tora: My sister and mom were sooo excited to come back to this restaurant with Japanese flare.  It reminded me a bit of Nobu! The black miso cod was outstanding, along with their sushi. Their patio is stunning, so make sure to snag a table outside during sunset.  We even saw some crocodiles in the water!

Thai/Elefante: We ate here when we wanted to do some shopping at Fashion Harbour and La Isla, since it’s in the same vicinity.  Highly surprised by this one.  Y’all know I love Thai and Indian food, so this was nice because you could order from both menus.  Plus, you were still on the water in these adorable little huts.  It kind of felt like you were in Asia and not Mexico. Very cool!

Porfirio’s: This might have to be my favorite stop! The food was outstanding, per usual, but I liked the vibe of this place the most.  There was a DJ with a huge TV screen that matched up to the songs.  It was a mixture of modern music and Mexican regional music.  At one point, the DJ played a Mariachi band on the screen, but then I realized that a real Mariachi band had come out and surrounded everyone in the restaurant. Their patio was also very beautiful!  If you’d like to enjoy a steakhouse, Harry’s is next door and we heard so many great things about it!

Rosa Negra: This is actually connected to Tora (I’m pretty sure it has the same owners), so we were excited to eat here, since Tora was such a great experience.  I’m always surprised by the large portions.  I feel like in the states, you pay an arm and a leg for high quality food and experience, but you’re left with an extremely small plate.  In Cancún, that’s not the case.  Each restaurant makes you feel *so* special, the portions are always perfectly sized, the quality is unmatched, and the price is reasonably expensive but not like, USA expensive.

Restaurante Chianti: Need some Italian in your life? Look no further.  Such a delicious and luxurious experience with a great patio!

La Isla Shopping Village: This is actually right next door to Fashion Harbour.  These are more casual shops — we snagged some local goodies, like coconut candies and vanilla extract.  There are also stores like Zara, Under Armour, etc.

Fashion Harbour: This is where Saint Laurent, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and some higher end stores are!

Luxury Avenue: Somehow even more luxurious than Fashion Harbour.  For example: Cartier, Hermes, Rolex, etc.

I also received a few questions about Spring Break. I feel like Cancún always has a bad reputation for Spring Break (remember those MTV Spring Break days).  Although it does get busy and hectic around Spring Break, as with any tropical place, we stayed off the beaten path in the Hotel Zone! It was still close to everything, but it wasn’t in the heart of all the partying would be (to get to some of the restaurants, the cab drives through the club area — you’ll see what I mean ha).  Plus, usually you can find a hotel that doesn’t ‘allow’ spring breakers if you’re trying to avoid that scene (i.e. our hotel has that regulation!).

Totally approve of your swimsuit. I love that belt. I am in South Beach now and I am having a great time. Tomorrow is beach day. Got some time in the pool earlier with Boyfriend.

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t feel so blessed to be Jordan’s wife. He is my everything. These photos and video are the sweetest reminder of our love for one another. The Proposal

It’s crazy what can happen in a year. I met the love of my life and the rest is history. I was having a hard time ending this post, because frankly, I think I could talk about that evening forever. Then I realized that this post doesn’t have an ending, but instead, a beginning. Thank you so much for all of the love, excitement, and gratitude.
