Today’s the day.  I’m spilling all my secrets on how to get long lashes {real ones, y’all}.  I’ve been receiving so many questions about my lashes, especially lately, so I thought I’d go ahead and do a full post on it.  I’ll be giving you the deets on what my daily routine looks like, which mascaras I love, and other good stuff.

First of all, my lashes are real.  I’ve considered getting lash extensions, but can’t seem to bring myself to do it.  I’ve worked so hard to get my lashes long and full, but sometimes it never seems like it’s enough ha! Lash extensions, like any extensions or anything that’s ‘fake’, will damage your lashes, even if they say it won’t.  It’s like getting acrylics or dip on your nails, your nail will temporarily be damaged but can get back to normal after some time.  I feel like my natural lashes are pretty decent {thanks to conditioning them and treating them properly}, so why would I want to ruin them with some extensions, right?

For photoshoots, I wear strip lashes {this pair is my favorite with this lash glue — just make sure to clean them thoroughly and be gentle for re-use}.  I think they look a little more dramatic in photos, which is definitely needed.  I just remove them very delicately with a q-tip and some makeup remover.  However, when you see me talking on insta story, snapchat, etc. wearing my everyday makeup, those are just my lashes with some mascara on them.

Here’s some of my advice on how to get long lashes:

  1. Lash Serum: I’ve worn a lash serum every night for the last few years on both my eyelashes and eyebrows.  I started out using Neulash, but then switched over to this R+F Lash Boost back in January.  My friend convinced me to try it out — and if we’re being honest, I get really annoyed when people try to sell me R+F.  I find it a little aggressive, but since I’m so into lashes, I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m surprisingly glad I did.  Both serums work extremely well, but I actually prefer the applicator of the Lash Boost better. It also seems that the Lash Boost bottle lasts a little bit longer than Neulash.  I’m always trying to get more bang for my buck.  You can typically see full results of lash serums within 6 months {I could tell a difference within a month}.
  2. Primer: I prime my eyelashes with this Dior Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer when I know I’ll be wearing a lot of mascara.  I don’t wear primer on my lashes for just everyday makeup or if I’m going to the gym, because I’d be going through so many of those bottles haha.  Primer helps protect the lashes though, and they make them look 10x thicker when you put mascara on top.  Another fave primer of mine is this Loreal Voluminous Lash Primer, which is an affordable and great quality option.
  3. Mascara: I’m extremely weird about my mascara.  I always look at the ingredients before using and make sure that I don’t leave them out used for too long {because they can expire}.  For my everyday makeup, I use BareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara.  I swear by this stuff.  It’s the only mascara that doesn’t bleed down onto my face when I sweat {and it’s not even the waterproof one}.  Y’all always wonder how I snap after the gym and my mascara is still in tact — well, it’s all thanks to this mascara! {*another tip: I dab my sweat with a towel, rather than wipe*} Magic, I tell you.  It has an applicator with small bristles, so it doesn’t actually provide a whole lot of volume, but I find that it lengthens them more, which is what I prefer for an everyday look.  For a more dramatic makeup look and for thicker lashes, I use Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara.  I previously had used BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara, which I still love, but I’ve found that Benefit’s mascara does a better job at volumizing your lashes without making them look clumpy.  If there’s one thing I loathe — it’s clumpy lashes.
  4. Castor Oil: I used castor oil before I invested in a lash serum, and it actually works pretty well {not as well as a serum, but still, pretty decent for an all natural alternative}.  You can buy castor oil pretty much anywhere: amazon, whole foods, Ulta, wherever.  I would dip a Q-Tip in it every night and coat my lashes and eyebrows with it.

Hope y’all enjoyed my ‘how to get long lashes’ low-down, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Love this post! Just curious – if you stop using the lash serum, do you see the effects fade/reverse?

All great tips! Have you tried the Revita lash by chance? Started using that recently.

Just amazing and… very sophisticated)) Love this review!! My favorite remedy now is Cherish Lash serum – such a mild but powerful effect. It helps boost my eyelashes naturally and they remain so silky. I wonder how you would feel about it. Thanks for beautiful photos))
