Hey hey hey everyone! Happy Monday! I’m feeling hyped for this week! Not only am I ready to kill it at the gym in these baller deconstructed leggings from Carbon38, BUT also my very best friend is getting married this weekend! EEK! She’s the first one of our friend group to get married, so needless to say, we. are. ecstatic.
Anyways, let’s get back to this post…as always, I’ve got my weekly workout routine for y’all! Wahoo! I feel like I could conquer the world in these deconstructed leggings and deconstructed crop tank. I’ve had my eye on this outfit for quite some time when it was available in black {one size left here!}. Then, when I saw it was available in this army color, I was sold! It’s something different than my typical all-black-workout look. It’s also such a pretty outfit for an ‘athleisure’ look, as shown in these photos {I just wore a regular bra above, but for working out, I would throw on this strappy sports bra!}. P.S. this pair of shoes is one of my faves and is available both here & here in various colors!
I usually just dive into my workouts for these posts, but I’ve been receiving some questions about my nutrition, exercises, etc., so I thought I’d answer some of them in this post. I think what I’m going to do, is write up a completely separate post fully diving into my nutrition — so if you have any specific questions you want answered about what/how/when I eat, please leave them in the comments and I’ll include them in the post!
First of all, I am a supporter of eating clean…when you can. However, I don’t bend over backwards to make sure every single thing that I eat is clean. I’ve always been pretty athletic and {what I would like to think} in decent shape. I have always been active and have always eaten ‘intuitively’, making sure I get all the good stuff into my daily diet, like carbs, protein, and fats. However, I would eat out quite a bit with my friends and with Andrew — and I would always get a glass of wine or cocktail anywhere I went…because uh, why not?! If I would eat a lot of carbs in the morning, I would cut back in the evening…ya know, that kind of relaxed, yet healthy, mentality.
However, lately, I’ve taken my nutrition pretty seriously. I had decided to meticulously follow my macros and although it kind of gets annoying to track them, I love doing it because I know 100% that I’m providing my body with the proper fuel it needs. I’ve probably been specifically tracking my macros for a couple of months now {rather than just eyeballing it like I used to}, and I feel energized, full, and strong.
People sometimes ask me if I’m training for something in particular — and no, no I’m not. I’m just super into fitness as a hobby and as a lifestyle and love feeling strong & healthy. However, I will say that I have a few goals that I would like to reach for my body just for fun, but that’s about it.
I also have 1 cheat meal a week. Anddddd it’s usually pretty epic. I’m talking the works. Full out meal — maybe it’s a juicy hamburger and fries, or deep dish pizza, or maybe a steak that’s cooked in butter for once ha! Of course, some type of dessert is always included. Cheat meals actually play a really important role in fat loss, as well as satisfying those cravings without binging {which I’d love to get into in a separate post too}. Andrew also does the same — follows his macros + indulges in a cheat meal. So, it’s nice when you live a similar lifestyle to your friend or significant other. It makes the eating ‘healthy’ part easier, and it makes the cheat meal even better.
Also, I receive a lot of emails, asking about certain exercise definitions, what kind of weights I use, how much weight I use, and a bunch of other things. They are all valid questions, so I may make a little video answering some of those questions or maybe do a snapchat Q&A answering them {username is a_southerndrawl}. If you are ever confused about an exercise that I have listed in these posts or about your form, my suggestion is to go to bodybuilding.com and search for the exercise! They always include a great description of it + photos of it + a video. It’s a really good resource to have if you’re ever confused about something!
Okay, okay, this post is getting a little bit too long, so I’ll save some other good points for future posts. Just don’t forget to comment/email with questions that you want answered! I may start sharing more recipes for my meal preps {maybe on some Sundays?}, which are typically adapted from recipes that I’ve found online, but I would love to hear your all’s feedback first! Would you be into it or nah?

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t feel so blessed to be Jordan’s wife. He is my everything. These photos and video are the sweetest reminder of our love for one another. So, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a seat, and try not to bawl your eyes out (because I know we did). Every time we look through our photos and watch our video, we cry the happiest tears.
It’s crazy what can happen in a year. I met the love of my life and the rest is history. I was having a hard time ending this post, because frankly, I think I could talk about that evening forever. Then I realized that this post doesn’t have an ending, but instead, a beginning. Thank you so much for all of the love, excitement, and gratitude.
One of my favorite things to do in the fall is bake my dark chocolate chip pumpkin bread! I’ve made it *so* many times for me, J, and friends & family. It’s moist, decadent, and super easy to make! It also makes for a great DIY housewarming gift.
Love this look! The cutouts are edgy! I would love to know more about your nutrition and what eating intuitively means. Great look!
Hi Katie! Eating intuitively is a great option if you don’t want to count your macros. It’s just ‘eyeballing’ it, and making sure there’s a healthy balance of all essential food groups in your meals, without having to actually count out the grams, etc.
I’ve been totally the creepy follower who has been reading your blog and following you on social media but never really comment. Haha I think I’ve always felt awkward kinda talking to someone I really haven’t ever met haha. Hope you can relate! But I will say your fitness journey is so inspiring! I’ve been so interested in iifym/intermittent fasting and have done it super inconsistent but seeing your results makes me want to give it a try and be more serious about it. I do have a few questions if you don’t mind answering them? 1. Was it hard for you to get used to eating a lot of protein? That seems to be my biggest hurdle in following macros and 2. When you mention HIIT is that sprints on a treadmill or more like a jumping jacks/burpee kinda thing? Thanks so much and again, love reading your blog and following on social media but I’m always always too shy to leave any type of comment.
Hi, Becca! So glad to hear that you’ve been following along for awhile! I really appreciate you commenting and asking some great questions {even if you’ve never met me haha!}. I know it can be awkward, but I always love hearing everyone’s feedback — yours included! I’ll definitely address the macros question in my next nutrition post, since I agree, the amount of protein is a lot. As for HIIT, I do both, depending on my mood. I’ll typically do HIIT on some type of machine {elliptical with ‘sprints’ at a higher resistance, stairmaster, treadmill, or arc trainer}, but if I’m feeling bored and need something new, I’ll instead make a 20 minute circuit that includes a combination of burpees, etc. Hope that helps and let me know if you ever have any other questions!
You look great. Did you use a special plan or website to count macros. I recently started learning about it and wanted to start.
Hi there! Thanks so much and that’s a great question. I have a few sites that have great macro calculators! I’ll link to them in my next post. IIFYM also has a calculator on their site too!
What’s your HIIT workout? Also, what percentage of macros do you eat?
Hi, Lauren! I’ll definitely explain a bit more about my HIIT in an upcoming post. I would recommend doing 2-3 HIIT sessions per week — I just do it more frequently, because I like getting intense cardio in most days! My HIIT workout changes frequently, depending on my mood, but I’ll provide some examples of it in the next post! As for macros, I don’t go by percentage, but instead by grams. Everyone’s bodies are different and we all have different goals, so numbers will be different for everyone! That’s a great question though, and I’ll try to explain it in more details in the nutrition post!
I would love to know more about this counting macros. Love the outfit super cute!!! I am going to try some of these workouts this week. Thanks!
Sounds great, Lauren! I’ll give you the low down on macros in the nutrition post! Hope your week is great!
Are you more on a Paleo lifestyle when you say you are counting your macros? I just started eating Paleo and trying to count macros seems so difficult right now! Any go to quick meals you would suggest? Also, when you started to count your macros more, did you use enzymes at all? Great blog post, and workout routine!
Hi there! I don’t do paleo — I eat carbs {actually, a lot of carbs}, protein, and healthy fats! Stir fry is always my go-to meal when I’m in a hurry! Just throw your meat & veggies in a skillet and add some soy sauce and sriracha! I’ll try to explain how I follow my macros a little bit more in my nutrition post though. Thanks for your kind words!
I need you to come over and be my personal trainer, you look amazing 🙂 This outfit is awesome too, love it!
I love that you post these workouts! I know you can’t answer every tweet lol I just wanted to ask If you have any protein or meal replacement shakes you recommend? I’m loving the workouts by the way! And how heavy do you go with weights?
Hi! I’ll definitely include some of my favorite protein powders and bars in my nutrition post. For now, I loveeee Quest bars — they’re tasty {especially when microwaved for a little bit and maybe add some cool whip on there if you’re feeling frisky} and they have really good macros compared to other protein bars. Also, everyone is different, but I lift as much as possible when I do ‘heavy’days {no, you won’t get bulky, I promise haha}. The amount of weight I use for each exercise would allow me only to do 6 reps {if that}. So glad you’ve been loving the workouts!
You’ve changed my workout game! Thank you for being an inspiration and keeping me motivated every week. Can’t stop, won’t stop! Keep ’em coming!
Yay! So glad to hear it — you just made my day! xx
