Lately, we’ve been reminiscing about the transformation of the pictures on her blog since upgrading cameras to a D-SLR, and all of the trials and tribulations we’ve gone through trying to figure out how the thing works and we thought it’d be a good idea to share with you what we’ve learned to benefit you, the reader.  So, every Thursday, I’ll be posting a photography tip of the week in order to help you achieve those amazing outfit photographs that you desire.  I hope you all enjoy.
First thing’s first.  If you’re interested in starting up a fashion blog, the quality of the photos is a huge selling point.  Primarily, the photos where the subject is in clear focus but the background is nice and blurry, thusly drawing the viewer’s attention towards the subject and the outfit that they’re wearing.  How does one achieve this effect you might ask? Well for starters, you’ll need the right kind of camera. I would strongly suggest that you invest in a D-SLR.
You might be wondering why you should purchase a D-SLR over a point and shoot.  They’re traditionally much bulkier and more expensive than a point and shoot camera after all.  The great thing about D-SLRs though is the total control you have over the camera settings. Here’s a brief overview of the advantages of owning a D-SLR:

Let the difference in photo quality speak for itself. Â The photo on the left was taken with a point and shoot camera while the one on the right was taken using a D-SLR.

So overall, the D-SLR might be a bit pricier, but in the long run it will hold its value much better, will take higher quality pictures, be much more adaptable and will last longer than any point and shoot camera that you can buy.  You’ll be amazed at the photographs that you can capture once you get a basic understanding of its workings and its benefits will extend far beyond the realm of just outfit pictures.  That my friends, sounds like a winner. Check back next week for more tips!

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t feel so blessed to be Jordan’s wife. He is my everything. These photos and video are the sweetest reminder of our love for one another. So, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a seat, and try not to bawl your eyes out (because I know we did). Every time we look through our photos and watch our video, we cry the happiest tears.
It’s crazy what can happen in a year. I met the love of my life and the rest is history. I was having a hard time ending this post, because frankly, I think I could talk about that evening forever. Then I realized that this post doesn’t have an ending, but instead, a beginning. Thank you so much for all of the love, excitement, and gratitude.
One of my favorite things to do in the fall is bake my dark chocolate chip pumpkin bread! I’ve made it *so* many times for me, J, and friends & family. It’s moist, decadent, and super easy to make! It also makes for a great DIY housewarming gift.
first off i just can't get enough of that gorgeous pink color on u! secondly i feel you on the dslr…totally worth the investment (p.s. what would be do without our sweet husbands??)

GREAT. I just put my DSLR to good use when I went to Europe last month, and I'm still getting the hang of it (adjusting aperture and all that jazz). Tell us more about that type of stuff…the "boring," technical stuff.
Your Friend, Jess
Great post – I agree a good camera is absolutely essential for blogging. Question – what do you think about interchangeable lens cameras? I feel like they're replacing the average point and shoot because of the better image quality and the ease of use but I'm wondering how it stacks up against DSLRs?
Anyways, I really enjoyed reading this post. Keep them coming! :]

As a brand new blogger, thanks for this post! My hubs is also my personal paparazzo, and I'm trying to sell him on the idea of a new camera, but both of us are totally clueless on the subject! Looking forward to more tips!

It's so true, a DSLR makes such a difference! I just started my blog a few months ago and was primarily using my iPhone and such. I quickly realized how important the photos are so I purchased my DSLR a couple of weeks ago and have been obsessed. I literally take it everywhere. It's so much more fun to use!
Great post, now if I could just get a class on setting my DSLR on manual! Another post maybe. 🙂
Loving this post. Seriously looking into DSLR for my blog to take it up a notch and this answered so many questions.
